There is no other way than the Original Retail box to find the serial number without opening the case and looking at the motherboard. How to find Serial Number (SN) of Your device. Please kindly check the sticker on the bottom of Your Eee PC. Serial Number is located directly over or under the barcode and starts with 'SN:'.
Pls excuse the lame question, but by diligent searching on the internet, I have learned things I didn't already know about tracking my stolen computer .. and am not willing to give up yet. Maybe someone in your community will give me information I haven't already pursued. My ASUS laptop model K52F-A1 was stolen yesterday in N. California. I am searching sales sites such as Craigslist. Any other ideas here? I've filed a police report and entered the computer on the stolen computer database. Any other ideas? One specific problem is finding the serial number on the ASUS. My computer store found my date of purchase and model/make, but only knows part of the serial number, provided from their record of computers received from ASUS that month. The police want a complete serial number and ASUS isn't helpful. Any ideas on finding this? Finally, I am using my dropbox software to watch and see if the IP address changes on this computer..that was an example of a tip I got on the internet. Thanks for any help - and please don't scold me for leaving the laptop in my car - I already feel stupid about that.

If the computer you use for your business sporadically shuts down, freezes or refuses to boot, you may worry that something is wrong with your ASUS motherboard. The motherboard connects the computer's various hardware components together, including the processor, RAM and video card. If you contact the ASUS technical support team for a repair or replacement, you will need to provide the serial number and model number of the motherboard. Even if your motherboard hasn't stopped working, identifying it will help you learn what upgrade parts to buy for your computer. By adding more RAM and processing power, you will get better performance and increased productivity for your business projects.

Review the user's manual that shipped with your ASUS motherboard. The manual usually lists the model and serial number of the motherboard.

Restart the computer and press the 'Pause/Break' key when 'ASUS xxxx ACPI BIOS Revision' appears on the screen. The model number is displayed.
